Embrace the Earth!
A music video from Russia celebrates the life that is only truly worth living in times of peace — the precondition being that we „simply become human“.
It is good that at least a few Western artists have spoken kindly about Russia in their songs. Russian songs, however, are still a rarity even in anti-militarist circles. The composer and trumpeter Markus Stockhausen has found an impressive video that is the result of the collaboration of many Russian artists: „ЖИТЬ“ (to live). The alternating voices express essentially simple, emotional messages: „How can you take the mother away from a child that is five years old?“ A universal longing for peace finds expression in it. Alongside images of a desirable peaceful future there are also images of suffering and destruction. To these the participants say a resolute „нет“ (no).
Is it too much to wish for, to long for real peace? How deeply I wish for all the children of this world a happy, peaceful future.
For thousands of years we have had wars on this earth, it is enough. In the current Russia-Ukraine war several hundred thousand soldiers and thousands of civilians have already died. For what? For what? For what? What was achieved? Nothing. Everything has only become worse.
An entirely different consciousness and conduct of people should and can come, a consciousness of mutual appreciation and support. A life in freedom and justice for all. For this we need good living conditions for everyone, good education, care. It is absolutely achievable. There is enough for all, and if we all help one another, life on earth can flourish.
It can certainly work wonderfully toward its goals, but when the heart does not join in, the intellect remains cold and can become inhuman, just as we so often experience today. The findings of science and the technical developments are astonishing, but the ethical education of the heart is unfortunately still neglected like a stepchild. Power and greed, in short egoism, determine worldly life all too much.
Let us at last create peace on earth by ending all hostile, disharmonious and destructive behaviour. Let us find peace within ourselves, resolve the inner conflicts and thus contribute to world peace. And let us live peace in our words and deeds. Love of life, for all beings. Peaceful coexistence with all life, including the animals, plants and the earth.
I searched for a Russian peace video. This one was made 6 years ago with many participants. It has been listened to 51 million times (!). Even if it is made somewhat popular or sentimental, a very strong and honest message still comes through. Thanks to my friend, the musician Arkady Schilkloper, who recommended the music video „Life“ to me.

Wie lernt man, im Frieden leben?
In der Umarmung vom Morgenrot
einfach lieben, einfach träumen,

Ich kann mich an meine 18 erinnern,
Musik, Sport, der Wille, sich zu ändern.
Damals glaubte keiner an meinen Erfolg.
Trotzdem konnte ich groß werden.
Ich erinnere mich, wie alle riefen:
„Pass auf!“
Studium, Arbeit – unmöglich!
Die einzige Chance, der einzige Sohn,
Diplom der Uni Moskau – das war die Erwartung an mich.
In meiner Geschichte ist alles anders:
War raus aus der Uni, hatte kein Lob zuhause,
dann meinte einer meiner Bekannten:
Der Reichste im Land kommt aus einem Waisenhaus.
Ich hab die Diagnose gehört, war im Krankenhaus,
hab ihnen in die Augen geschaut, direkt in ihre Gesichter:
Keinerlei Mutlosigkeit, der (mein) Wille zu leben,
nicht nur ein paar Jahre, mindestens dreißig.
– Mindestens dreißig? Hundert!
Kein „Was wenn…“, kein „aber…“
Mutlosigkeit zieht Dich wie ein Anker nach unten.
Es ist an der Zeit, alles zu ändern,
es ist schon entschieden!
Ich habe mich selbst gemacht.
Und Du bist doch nicht schlechter.
Du kannst das auch so,

Ergreife die Chance mit eigenen Händen,
verändere Dein Leben mit uns.

How does one learn to live in peace?
In the embrace of the dawn
to simply love, to simply dream,
to warm the world with one’s heart.

I can remember my eighteenth year,
music, sport, the will to change.
Back then no one believed in my success.
And yet I was able to grow great.
I remember how everyone shouted:
„Watch out!“
Studies, work – impossible!
The only chance, the only son,
a diploma from Moscow University – that was what was expected of me.
In my story everything is different:
I was out of the university, got no praise at home,
then one of my acquaintances said:
the richest man in the country comes from an orphanage.
I heard the diagnosis, was in the hospital,
looked them in the eyes, straight into their faces:
not the slightest despondency, the (my) will to live,
not just a few years, at least thirty.
– At least thirty? A hundred!
No „what if…“, no „but…“
despondency drags you down like an anchor.
It is time to change everything,
it is already decided!
I made myself.
And you are no worse.
You can do it just the same,
you are no worse.
Seize the chance with your own hands,
change your life with us.
