The Human Family

We are really all one — and yet we keep letting ourselves be driven into wars. The singer Morgaine makes her vision of world peace tangible.

“Just imagine, borders and walls will fall, for they are only an illusion.” Morgaine’s song “Menschheitsfamilie” is a kind of German-language “Imagine” and lists a whole series of positive visions. Indeed, the video for the song radiates a very loving and life-affirming “hippie” atmosphere. We could urgently use this spirit again right now. The songwriter also wrote this song against the backdrop of a deeply divided society and in a time that, in hindsight, must be understood as a “pre-war period.”

No reasonable person wants violence and murder. And yet it happens again and again. We must do everything so that it stops, Morgaine urges upon us in this interpretation of her own song. Just imagine there is a war and nobody shows up.

The song “Menschheitsfamilie” carries within it the core message that I stand for with my music and also as a person: We are one. The feeling of a deep and genuine connectedness, the band that weaves us together as human beings and is always there. It is that feeling which, sadly, the vast majority of people out there have long been unable to perceive within themselves.

“Menschheitsfamilie” came into being during a time in which very sharp fronts and deep rifts prevailed within our society. It reminds us that it could actually be so simple to live in peace and harmony with all living beings on this planet — and here I include nature.

But since this state of division has not changed since 2020, since we talk less and less with one another and prefer to talk about one another, since we have more and more wars and crises all over the world and people are becoming ever more hopeless, “Menschheitsfamilie” is still incredibly relevant.

I was inspired by the Swiss peace researcher Dr. Daniele Ganser, who established the word “Menschheitsfamilie” in the peace movement. In terms of content it is written from a childlike perspective and a deliberately chosen naivety, because I think that is exactly what we lack. We are too much in our heads, analysing, and some experts or politicians make the decisions for us. We have handed over responsibility and forgotten to help shape the world with our hearts and our intuition, in self-responsibility. We are afraid to truly walk through life with an open heart, to truly approach one another openly and to understand one another.

This inner child with precisely this view of the world — every person carries it within. The deep longing for a tribe or a community is deeply anchored in us. What we all long for most is the feeling of connectedness and togetherness.

Nothing really separates us, and yet humanity is as torn apart as it has not been for a long time. Instead of living together in peace, we lose ourselves more and more in trench warfare, hatred, fear and exclusion.

Do we really want to live like this? Is it not time to lower our weapons? 99.9 percent of all people want peace — so why don’t we simply do it?

And now we come to the crux of the matter: Very many people do not even consider it possible in the first place that there could be peace. We all know sentences like: “It has always been this way” or “Humankind has always waged wars.” If we already hold this attitude or these beliefs from the outset, then probably nothing will change either. But what if it were possible after all?
